Audubon Christmas Bird Count

Attention Area Captains:

Here are the Audubon Christmas Bird Count Report Forms, which are to be used as work sheets on Count Day and on which to make your final reports to be handed in on Tuesday, December 18th.

Contact all the people who have participated in your Designated Area in past years. These participant lists should be in your last year's records. Please advise us of any deletions.

Divide your target area into small groups. Assign one person as the “leader” and/or the “counter” who will record the groups sighting results plus their hours in the field and weather conditions. This information is to be turned in to you, the captain, on an official Hilton Head Area Bird Checklist Form.

Any bird seen, that is not on this HHA Checklist Form must be documented in detail on the Rare Bird Report to be accepted by National Photograph. Pictures should be taken for the Rare Bird Report, if possible, Sketch or give a detailed written description. Any species not seen on count day, but seen 3 days before or 3 days after count day, may be included by contacting the CBC Chairperson with the details.

Each group leader must also provide you, the captain, with a Participant List for their Counting Group. This includes name, address, phone, and e-mail and donation to the National Audubon Society to support this research.  This year, donations are optional, since final reports will be shared via email and not in the form of a book mailed to your address

On one Bird Checklist Form, report totals for each species found by your groups. This one form should cover your whole count area.

Please deliver the three forms (Participant List, Bird Checklist Form, and Rare Bird Report) with total counts, data and money to the Chairpersons. The Chairpersons will be at Honey Horn Plantation at the Coastal Discovery Museum between 9 AM and 12 PM on Tuesday, December 18th.

Thank you!
