Instructor James Asmuth will introduce you to Birding By Ear.
This class will be held in the Sea Island Room at the Coastal Discovery Museum, 70 Honey Horn Drive on Hilton Head.
In this 2 1/2 hour class, you will create your own "Birding by Ear" toolbox and fill it with ten (10) handy tools to help jump-start you own ear birding journey! Topics covered include interpreting sonograms; a vocabulary tor describing bird sound quality, pitch trends and tempo; bird sound mnemonics; memorization techniques; and learning apps for your smartphones and PCs. An electronic summary (Microsoft "WORD" document) of the essential material covered will be provided; so don't sweat taking notes.
The second session will include a two hour field trip to Jarvis Creek Park on Saturday, February 8th at 8:30am. We will meet at the observation deck behind the restrooms and set off around the pond's paved walkway to practice your new ear birding skills!
Please download "Merlin Bird ID by Cornell Lab" and "Chirp! Bird Songs & Calls USA" on your smartphones, and "Bird Song Hero: The Song Learning Game for Everyone" by Cornell Lab/Bird Academy, on your home PC.
Registration is $20.00 for Members and $35.00 for Nonmembers.
