Hilton Head Audubon

Great Egret (photo by Scott Clark)

A “Small but Mighty” six volunteers joined for the Newhall April Second Saturday Work Day earlier today, and a good deal was accomplished.  Shown below from left to right are David Walker, Julia and David Buzzard, Chris Cullum and Karen Lucey!  (Not shown is camera-shy photographer and Fearless Leader Bob Clemens.)

Julia and David were presented with a 2025 “Newhall Volunteers of the Year” plaque for their dedication to the Preserve.   As you probably know they track, record, and graph our visitor data each month, and Julia selects comments to share.  The Buzzards are also our resident painting crew!

Today Chris and David Buzzard “planted” a new post for a hose hanger near Lynn‘s Alcove and then a plaque and pedestal at the new Tom Hennessey memorial birdbath. If you haven’t seen it, the memorial is located near the bird feeders on the south side of the pond.

Karen undertook her usual task of blowing debris off the Newhall Trail between the parking lot and the pond, and Julia scrubbed the Preserve’s interpretive panels and benches.

David Walker and Fearless Leader installed some (dummy) video cameras and surveillance signs in an effort to discourage some “unwanted” patronage.  We plan to remove the signage at a later date if the perverse problem subsides.
